SIU Training Scholarships
One of the cornerstones of the SIU’s educational mission is its scholarship programme for young urologists (less than 10 years since MD qualification).
These involve training in a recognized institute located in the candidate’s geographical area. There are also a limited number of opportunities for training abroad as a visiting scholar in an observational role.
Both programmes offer the sum of $5,000 US for a period of 6 months.

Roswell Park Mini-Fellowships
The Department of Urology and the Minimally Invasive Surgical Training Center at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, in association with the Société Internationale d’Urologie (SIU), is pleased to announce the availability of a Robot-assisted Mini-fellowship. The Mini-fellowship program is three months in duration and includes laparoscopic and robot-assisted skills development, and case observership. Three fellowships will be offered each calendar year, beginning in February, May, and September,
The objectives of this Mini-fellowship are to introduce urologists to robot-assisted surgery. The education will focus on: safely learning the basics of robot-assisted surgery by training on the Robotic Surgical Simulator (RoSS) with a training curriculum and completing 16 hours of console time; transitioning the skills acquired with the RoSS to the daVinci Surgical System (DVSS); observing the surgical support team to learn about OR setup, instrumentation, and troubleshooting techniques. The trainee will also get hands on experience with conventional laparoscopic training. The remaining period of the Mini-fellowship will be spent observing cases, such as prostatectomy, cystectomy with intracorporeal urinary diversion, nephrectomy, and partial nephrectomy.
A candidate must initially contact and apply to the Department of Urology and the Minimally Invasive Surgical Training Center at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Subsequently, a candidate must apply to the SIU scholarship program by filling out the required application form, and send their CV and a letter of acceptance from Roswell Park Cancer Institute to the Scholarship Department at the SIU Central Office.
