The role of the National Delegate is a crucial one, as he/she is considered a direct link to the parent body as represented by the General Secretary, and gives a voice to the concerns and interests of his/her National Section.
In each country, SIU members form a National Section which is to meet during that country’s national meeting.
Each National Section elects a National Committee consisting of a Delegate, a Deputy Delegate and other members who must be in good standing to take office. Appointments are made by a majority of votes and for a two-year period. Elected National Delegates and Deputy Delegates automatically become members of the Committee of National Delegates that meets on the first day of each SIU Congress.
