Collaborative Applied Research

About uCARE

uCARE is the Société Internationale d’Urologie’s official Office of Research, created in the fall of 2017.

What is the vision behind uCARE?

Historically, clinical research has been conducted in the developed world. Many regions have clinicians with outstanding clinical skills and large patient volumes, but little research infrastructure or record of accomplishment. Urologists in these countries are motivated to participate in clinical research. There are major opportunities for global clinical research collaboration. uCARE generates opportunities for clinicians to participate in clinical studies and contribute to knowledge development and translation in Urology.

Real-World Data

  • Real world data (RWD) and real-world evidence (RWE) are playing an increasing role in health care decisions
  • FDA uses RWD and RWE to monitor post-market safety and adverse events and to make regulatory decisions
  • Support coverage decisions, and to develop guidelines and decision support tools for use in clinical practice
  • Support clinical trial designs and observational studies to generate innovative, new treatment approaches

Why Real-World Data?

Modern technology allows us to gather and store vast amounts of health-related data. We can use this to better design and conduct clinical research to answer questions previously thought infeasible. Coupled with the development of sophisticated, new analytical capabilities, we are better able to analyze these data and apply the results to medical product development and approval.

What makes uCARE uniquely positioned for this task?

Our research is powered by a global council made up of one representative from each of the SIU’s group members and/or global urological partners. This sets the stage for urological societies to connect and collaborate with each other on research activities, through established research centers in each participating member countries/regions, not just those in developed nations.
